First discovered by French scientists in the early 20th century, the Edwards’s pheasant vanished from Vietnam’s forests for nearly 30 years. Today, a conservation project is helping bring it back home. In this painting, I placed the male standing tall, while the rest of the family blends into the forest floor. The roots stretch horizontally beneath them: a contrast to his upright form.
