Le Petit Musée was founded in 2019 by Đào Văn Hoàng and his wife Lê Quỳnh Huệ, to pass on
to children what thirty years in the field taught him. It is a workshop, not a class: the
animals are there, alive or drawn from life, and the looking comes before the drawing.
He teaches the same way he works. Watch the animal first. Understand how it is built and
how it moves. Only then pick up a pencil. A child who has held a tortoise draws a different
tortoise afterwards.
Schools, from age four
He brings live animals into the room, tortoises among them, and the children handle them before anyone picks up a pencil. Then they draw what they have just held. A child who has felt a shell draws a different shell afterwards.
Schools, families, companies
A half day in the open, drawing what is actually there: the pines, the shore, whatever moves. He teaches the looking first, the proportions second, the drawing last. That is the order he works in himself.
Schools, nature centres, parks
On a rocky shore or in a park, turning over stones and finding what lives under them. The notebook comes out where the animal is, which is how every one of his paintings begins.
For Wildlife At Risk he built a travelling exhibition on the illegal consumption of wildlife, for children of six and seven. Four tents, four questions, asked in order.
Sessions are arranged per school and per group. Tell us the age of the children, how many, and where you are, and we answer with a date and a price.
