The giant panda is the one animal almost everyone hopes to see at least once. Even in captivity, where I saw this one, it’s an unforgettable experience. At the zoo, they seem completely themselves, unaware of visitors, moving as they might in the wild. I imagined this little one learning to walk through the snowy hills of Sichuan, just as clumsy and determined as ever.
